Chair

Rebecca Slocum

Photo of Rebecca SlocumRebecca is a native Floridian but has been calling California home since February 2018. She earned her BS in Psychology in 2012 from Florida State University (FSU) in Tallahassee, Florida, and has made a career in higher education since 2011, first serving as an academic tutor before becoming full-time staff after graduation. Her former institutions include FSU, as well as the University of Florida and Santa Fe College, both located in Gainesville, Florida, before finally joining CSU Channel Islands in 2019 as an academic support coordinator in the School of Arts & Sciences.

Currently, Rebecca is the Academic Scheduling Analyst in the Registrar's Office and oversees semester class schedule data entry and publication university wide. She earned her MA in Education with an emphasis in Disability Studies in 2022 from CI's School of Education and strives to incorporate advocacy and accessibility in everything she does at CI. Rebecca first joined Staff Council as the elected Custodian of Records in 2023, before being appointed to the vacated Chair position in 2024, completing the 2023-2026 term of office. She is excited to begin her second (and final) term as Chair and looks forward to every opportunity to improve the experiences of staff at CI.

Vice Chair

Rachel Danielson

After earning her BA in History from UC San Diego in 2005, Rachel began her professional career at UC Santa Barbara. Rachel was hired at CSU Channel Islands in 2007 and has spent the years since working in various roles within the Registrar鈥檚 Office, currently serving as the Assistant Registrar for Academic Evaluations.

As a member of the MA in Education 鈥 Higher Education inaugural cohort, Rachel was among the first Channel Islands students to be awarded this degree in the spring of 2016. During her time in the program, Rachel had the opportunity to appear in two AACRAO publications: AACRAO鈥檚 College & University journal for 鈥淎 Call for Courageous Leadership鈥 and AACRAO Guide to Commencement for 鈥淪erving Veterans through the Graduation and Commencement Process."

Rachel began her journey with Staff Council as a volunteer member of Ways & Means subcommittee, moving on to volunteer Chair of Ways & Means, then becoming an official Staff Council representative for Office of the President in addition to subcommittee Chair. Rachel was then appointed to the officer position of Secretary in 2024 following an unexpected vacancy, during which she supported the Communication & Brand Management subcommittee as the liaison to the Executive Board. Having now been elected Vice Chair in 2026, Rachel is excited for this new opportunity, which will utilize the many years of higher education experience she brings to the table.

Secretary

Jodi Kautz

Jodi Kautz grew up in Ventura County, in Newbury Park and witness Camarillo State Hospital close but also reopen as a university in 2002. A local graduate of Moorpark college, with an AA in 2019. Due to a car wreck where she broke her back, this change made her a disability rights advocate, and she moved to AZ. Jodi Kautz graduated from the University of Arizona with a double major; double minor - Major in English with Minor in Japanese; Major in Creative Writing, Minor in Anthropology in 2005. After working in behavioral health with children with Autism, Jodi attended Northern Arizona University to earn her master's in special education. She went on to work at her alma mater the U of A in Admissions during the pandemic and with a move back to her hometown in Newbury Park where she joins the Cal State Channel Islands Disability Accommodations and Support Services team in 2022. Jodi has served not only as the DASS Counselor at CI but as the Advisor to the Honor Society Delta Alpha Pi that recognizes high academically achieving students who also have a disability on our campus. She helped to increase membership from 15 students to 90 students as of 2026. 
 
In 2025, Jodi was nominated and elected to the be the DSA representative for Staff Council in which she promptly joined the sub-committee for Outreach and Development and was chosen to be the committee chair. Now, in 2026, Jodi has been elected Secretary and will continue to work to improve engagement with all staff across the CI Campus. 

Treasurer

Ariana Wilroy

Ariana Wilroy earned a Bachelor of Science in Business from CSU Channel Islands in 2019 and began her career at the University shortly thereafter as an Administrative Assistant in University Advancement. She later served as the Academic Support Coordinator for the Mathematics program before joining the Martin V. Smith School of Business & Economics as an Administrative Coordinator. In recognition of her contributions, Ariana was promoted to Administrative & Budget Analyst, where she now oversees the MVS School's budgets and supports the School's financial planning and operations.

Beyond her primary responsibilities, Ariana has been actively engaged in the CI community. She has served on the CI Scholarship Readers Committee since March 2025, was appointed as a Staff Representative on the Materials, Services, Facilities, & Technology (MSFT) Committee for the 2025鈥2027 term, and is an enthusiastic member of the CI Staff Book Club, The Bookaneers.

Ariana began serving on Staff Council in 2025 as a representative for the Division of Academic Affairs. She served as Co-Chair of the Communication & Brand Management Subcommittee from July 2025 until her election as Treasurer in 2026.

Riley Crain

Riley joined CSU Channel Islands as a staff member in 2024 as an Assessment Analyst for the School of Education and now works to support the Division of Academic Affairs. She has worked full-time in higher education since 2017, when she began at the University of Washington as an International Admissions Specialist. Her connection to higher education began even earlier, through her work in an international student services office during her early college years as a student assistant.

Riley will complete her Master of Public Administration (MPA) at CSU Channel Islands in Spring 2027. Her service on Staff Council began in 2025, when she accepted an emergency appointment to help fill a Division of Academic Affairs representative seat - and quickly found a meaningful way to connect, contribute, and advocate for staff. Since then, Riley has held committee and representative positions on POEC, APPC, and Academic Senate, and has served as Chair of the Staff Council Governance Subcommittee.
